What are the differences between fastener bolt and screw?

Time:2020.04.13    Browse:286
Bolt and screw are our common connecting fasteners, which play the role of connection and fixation in various fields and equipment. Many people sometimes mistake the bolt and screw, which is easy to be confused. Let's share the differences between fastener bolts and screws today. I hope it will be helpful for you to use bolts and screws later.
Differences between fastener bolts and screws:
1. Fastener bolt and screw are defined differently:
Bolt: the bolt is a cylindrical threaded fastener which is matched with the nut in use. It is mainly used for fastening and connecting two parts with through holes, which is called bolt connection.
Screw, also known as screw, screw is a tool which uses the physical and mathematical principles of the oblique circular rotation of the object and friction force to fasten the implement parts gradually and circularly. The set screw is used to fix the relative position of the parts. Screw the set screw into the screw hole of the part to be tightened, and press the end tightly on the surface of another part, that is, fix the former part on the latter part.
2. The shape and structure of fastener bolt and screw are different:
Bolt: a kind of fastener composed of head and screw (cylinder with external thread). The head is mostly hexagon head, generally larger.
Screw: it is a kind of fastener composed of head and screw. The head is mostly slotted, cross slotted, with many internal and external hexagons, generally smaller.
3. The application of fastener bolt and screw is different:
Bolt: generally used in pairs with nut, for through hole, easy to replace after damage.
Screw: usually it doesn't need nut, and it is directly matched with two objects (generally, the connector needs to be drilled and tapped first), which is mostly used for blind hole, and seldom disassembled by the connector.
4. Fastener bolt and screw use different tools:
Bolts are usually spanner tools.
Screws are usually made with screwdriver tools.
5. The fastening of fastener bolt and screw is different:
The bolt is generally used with the nut or screwed into the processed bolt hole.
In addition to the two tightening methods of bolts, screws also have self tapping screws, which are directly screwed into the workpiece with relatively soft material and do not need to process bolt holes. For example, the wood screw we call is this kind of screw.
6. Fastener bolts and screws are used in different occasions:
Bolts and screws are used in different places, and the accuracy requirements of bolts are not high, unless there are matching requirements, general bolts are easy to disassemble, with low processing accuracy, not limited by connecting materials, widely used, bolts requiring matching can bear transverse load; screws are compact in structure, but can not be dismantled frequently, and can not bear large force.
